Unlimited Detail

As video-games become more visually detailed, chip makers scramble to keep up with the demand for more polygons. However a new technology may negate the need for polygons all together.
Unlimited Detail promises literally limitless detail without the need for dedicated graphics chips. The technology is based on voxels, which have been around for a fairly long time, but creator Bruce Dell believes hes figured out a way to use them to bring computer gaming to a whole new level.

It's hard to tell at these early stages whether Dell is really on to something or just yanking our chain, but he's currently in the process of forming a company to further develop the technology and any specifics to how it works are bound by the strictest of NDA's.
Even if Unlimited Detail doesn't pan out it's still excited to see that new innovations are still being made to push the limits of what we can do on computers.
